Discovering Georg Baselitz at Pompidou

Figurative paintings in an upside down world

During our visit, we learnt the difference between abstract and figurative art, as well as why Baselitz painted upside down images. When he started out as an artist, it was a time when there was World War 2. He thought that his country was going mad with all the terrible things that were happening, so he decided to express this madness by painting images upside down! We chose our favourite piece and ended our day with a creative activity paying special attention to colour and brushstroke
